Bill 2 - Budget Measures Implementation Act, 2026
Bill 2 introduced major changes to British Columbia's tax system and public finances. The bill dissolved the Merit Commissioner's office and transferred its responsibilities to the Minister of Finance. It increased personal income tax rates, raised the Speculation and Vacancy Tax to 4%, extended the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) to a range of professional services, created a new manufacturing tax credit, and simplified the Home Owner Grant by removing special northern and rural designations.
Bill 3 - Budget Measures Implementation Act (No. 2), 2026
Bill 3 established the British Columbia Strategic Investments special account to support provincial economic priorities. Beginning with an initial $400 million, the account allows the government to provide grants, loans, and equity investments for strategic projects. The Treasury Board was given broad authority to oversee the program and determine eligible investments.
Bill 4 - Supply Act (No. 1), 2026
Bill 4 authorized interim funding for public services during the 2026–2027 fiscal year while the full provincial budget is finalized. The Act provided more than $21 billion for government operations, along with funding for capital expenditures, financing transactions, and other required transfers to ensure public services continue uninterrupted.
Bill 22 - Supply Act, 2026–2027, 2026
Bill 22 provided final approval for provincial spending during the 2026–2027 fiscal year. The Act authorized more than $84 billion for government operations and additional funding for capital expenditures, loans, and other financing requirements, completing the province's annual budget process.
Public Safety
Bill 5 - Motor Vehicle Amendment Act, 2026
Bill 5 modernized the administration of driver's licences and vehicle records. The bill expanded the use of electronic applications, digital signatures, and digital identity verification, updated notification requirements for drivers, and revised administrative rules governing licensing and vehicle records.
Bill 8 - Civil Forfeiture Amendment Act, 2026
Bill 8 strengthened British Columbia's civil asset forfeiture framework. The bill required claimants to provide more information about property they seek to recover, streamlined court procedures, expanded information-sharing with other jurisdictions, and updated administrative timelines to improve the efficiency of forfeiture proceedings.
Bill 13 - Safe Access to Places of Public Worship Act, 2026
Bill 13 created temporary safe access zones around places of worship to protect individuals from intimidation or interference while attending religious services. The law prohibits obstructing entrances, disrupting services, or attempting to pressure worshippers within designated areas and provides enforcement powers for police and the courts. The legislation expires four years after coming into force.
Education
Bill 7 - Post-Secondary International Education (Designated Institutions) Act, 2026
Bill 7 established a regulatory framework for post-secondary institutions enrolling international students. Institutions must obtain provincial designation before recruiting or admitting international students, meet prescribed standards, and comply with inspections and enforcement measures intended to improve accountability and protect students.
Bill 12 - Safe Access to Schools Amendment Act, 2026
Bill 12 extended the Province's existing safe access zones around schools until July 1st, 2028. The legislation maintains protections intended to prevent activities that interfere with school operations or compromise the safety of students and staff.
Environment
Bill 14 - Forest Statutes Amendment Act, 2026
Bill 14 updated the Province's forest management framework. The bill introduced new contract logging authorizations, strengthened wildfire and environmental requirements, increased transparency around planned timber sales, and allowed timber revenues to support forest infrastructure and reforestation.
Bill 15 - Environmental Assessment Amendment Act, 2026
Bill 15 updated how British Columbia works with Indigenous nations during environmental assessments. The bill established new processes for resolving disputes. It also encourages greater collaboration during project reviews and requires information about dispute resolution to be published.
Other Legislation
Bill 5 - Trade Recognition Act, 2026
Bill 5 established a framework to reduce barriers to interprovincial trade by recognizing many goods and services that are legally sold elsewhere in Canada. The Act allows these products and services to be sold in British Columbia despite certain provincial regulatory differences, while preserving exemptions for areas such as taxation, Indigenous rights, and labour mobility. It also gave the government authority to require regulators to remove non-compliant rules.
Bill 9 - Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Amendment Act, 2026
Bill 9 updated British Columbia's access to information and privacy laws. The bill established new rules for information requests, allowed public bodies to disregard abusive or excessively broad requests, strengthened privacy protections for integrated government programs, and expanded information-sharing between public bodies under defined circumstances.
Bill 10 - Labour Statutes Amendment Act, 2026
Bill 10 updated workplace dispute procedures under the Employment Standards Act and the Temporary Foreign Worker Protection Act. The law allows officials to dismiss frivolous complaints, requires mandatory dispute resolution meetings in some cases, and requires employers to provide a deposit before appealing certain unpaid wage decisions.
Bill 11 - Residential Tenancy Amendment Act, 2026
Bill 11 updated tenancy rules for supportive and transitional housing. The bill established new provincial standards, expanded landlords' ability to address serious safety concerns, including weapons and criminal activity, and allowed the government to require minimum compensation for tenants when landlords fail to meet legal obligations.
Bill 16 - Miscellaneous Statutes Amendment Act, 2026
Bill 16 made technical amendments to several provincial laws. The bill strengthened protections for confidential cabinet records, updated fuel price reporting requirements, revised zero-emission vehicle targets, amended residential tenancy procedures, and streamlined complaint processes relating to correctional facilities and policing.
Bill 20 - K'ómoks Treaty Act, 2026
Bill 20 implemented the treaty between the K'ómoks First Nation and the provincial and federal governments. The Act gave the treaty the force of law, transferred ownership of specified lands, recognized the Nation's self-government powers, and established new arrangements for governance and local services as part of British Columbia's reconciliation efforts
