Election 2024: Campaign Roundup - Day 9

Welcome to Day 9 of our British Columbia 2024 Campaign Roundup!
With the 2024 BC election now finally underway, we'll be bringing you daily updates on all the policy proclamations, platform promises, and political point-scoring from the campaign trail.
As always, our work is entirely funded by donations from British Columbians just like you, so if you appreciate the updates, please consider making a one-off donation or signing up as a supporter for just $10 a month - that's just 36 cents per email!
Campaign Roundup - Day 9:
- Mike Morden, BC Conservative Candidate for Maple Ridge - Pitt Meadows, toured the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. He noted that in five years, the number of clients of the food bank have risen from around 6,500 to 17,000.
- The BC NDP said they will increase the Production Services Tax Credit and Film Incentive BC refund in order to support the creation of 7,000 jobs in the film industry.
- It was noted that it’s particularly impressive for the BC Conservatives to field a full slate of candidates, given that the party only ran 19 candidates in 2020. The party has grown quickly! The BC NDP are the only other party also fielding a full slate of 93 candidates.
- BC NDP Leader David Eby and BC Conservative Leader John Rustad both called each other’s candidates into question. Eby wants Rustad to remove those who have made statements he finds to be “conspiracy theories”, while Rustad suggested that Eby investigate his candidates’ (and former Cabinet Ministers’) ties to lobbyists in the housing industry.
- If you’re wondering how to vote, you can now cast your ballot at any district electoral office in the province until 4:00 pm on Voting Day (October 19th). A full list of district electoral offices is available online. You can also request a vote-by-mail package online or by phone until October 13th.
