Campaign Roundup - Day 27:
- Over one million British Columbians have voted in advance polls ahead of Saturday’s election, surpassing the previous record set in 2020. This represents over 28% of registered voters, with some ridings seeing turnout exceed 35%.
- A record number of independent candidates, including six incumbent MLAs, are running in the election, potentially impacting the outcome. Incumbents like Karin Kirkpatrick (West Vancouver - Capilano) argue they offer a centrist alternative amid a tight race between the BC NDP and BC Conservatives.
- The BC Conservative Party has promised to eliminate the PST on most used vehicles if elected. They also plan to increase the threshold upon which the luxury tax on used vehicles takes effect.
- The BC Conservatives touted the endorsement of former Premier Gordon Campbell, who called on voters to cast a ballot for Lynne Block, candidate for West Vancouver - Capilano.
- The BC Green Party held a press conference to lay out their plan for food security and local agriculture support. The plan includes creating agricultural water reserves, creating a universal school food program, and expanding food security programs.
- Voting Day is October 19th, and the polls will be open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. To find your nearest polling station, visit the Elections BC website.
