Election 2024: Campaign Roundup - Day 24

Welcome to Day 24 of our British Columbia 2024 Campaign Roundup!

With the 2024 BC election now finally underway, we'll be bringing you daily updates on all the policy proclamations, platform promises, and political point-scoring from the campaign trail.

As always, our work is entirely funded by donations from British Columbians just like you, so if you appreciate the updates, please consider making a one-off donation or signing up as a supporter for just $10 a month - that's just 36 cents per email!

Campaign Roundup - Day 24:

  • The BC NDP made a parody social media post featuring BC Conservative Leader John Rustad promising to bring back McDonald's McRib sandwiches. Rustad replied with a quippy comeback: “Unlike David Eby’s NDP - people actually want the McRib to come back.”

  • The BC Conservatives issued a press release condemning BC NDP Leader David Eby’s past comments about drug use. The Conservatives said they refuse to accept addiction as a lifestyle choice, and instead, will focus on prevention and recovery.

  • Linda Hepner, BC Conservative candidate for Surrey - Serpentine River, announced that her party has committed to a new children’s hospital with a pediatric ER, maternity ward, women’s health centre, NICU, and the first-ever PICU in the health region.

  • The BC Conservatives announced their Learning-First Education Plan. The plan involves restoring letter grades for students in Grades 4 through 9, reinstating standardized provincial exams for Grades 10 and 11, replacing SOGI 123 with an anti-bullying program, opening new schools, and more.

  • BC NDP Leader David Eby is calling on BC Green Party supporters to strategically vote for NDP candidates to avoid vote-splitting. BC Green Party Leader Sonia Furstenau said her party is needed to ensure the Legislature isn’t dominated by either the NDP or the Conservatives.

  • The BC NDP wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving, and doubled down on their promise to allow pets in all purpose-built rentals.
