Campaign Roundup - Day 17:

  • The BC Conservative Party announced their Restore Public Safety plan. They promised to fight for mandatory minimum sentencing for violent offenders, hire more sheriffs and judges to reduce the court backlog, create a new statutory court to hold trials for minor offenses within a week, and support rehabilitation programs for gang members and people addicted to drugs.

  • John Rustad, BC Conservative Leader, called for legal action against anyone glorifying terrorism on Canadian streets. He also called for revoking visas and deporting non-citizens who promote terrorist organizations.

  • The BC NDP, led by David Eby, has pledged $500 million over the next two years to expand child care spaces and improve education support if elected. The plan includes integrating child care into school spaces, increasing the number of educational assistants, ensuring every K-to-Grade 3 classroom has an EA, and placing mental health counsellors in all public schools.

  • Several BC NDP Candidates released new campaign ads, including Megan Dykeman (Langley - Walnut Grove), Rick Glumac (Port Moody - Burquitlam), and George Anderson (Nanaimo - Lantzville).

  • Two of the candidates for Esquimalt - Colwood, Darlene Rotchford (BC NDP) and Camille Currie (BC Green Party) participated in a debate that was centered around the environment and climate.

  • Green Party Leader Sonia Furstenau previously represented the riding of Cowichan Valley, but is now running in Victoria - Beacon Hill after moving to Victoria to be near family. Furstenau is aware that her new riding is an NDP stronghold, but says she intends to win.
