With the 2024 BC election underway, we'll be bringing you daily updates on all the policy proclamations, platform promises, and political point-scoring from the campaign trail.

As always, our work is entirely funded by donations from British Columbians just like you, so if you appreciate the updates, please consider making a one-off donation or signing up as a supporter for just $10 a month - that's just 36 cents per email!

Campaign Roundup - Day 1:

  • The writs for the 2024 British Columbia election were officially issued today, meaning the election campaign has officially begun.

  • BC United has decided not to participate in the election entirely. The party had initially suspended its campaign and endorsed the Conservatives but decided to run a few candidates to maintain its party registration, but has now decided not to.

  • NDP Leader David Eby kicked off his campaign in Surrey the day before the writ dropped, calling the city the "epicentre" of challenges caused by population growth. Today, he made a campaign stop in Richmond.

  • Conservative Leader John Rustad pledged to cut housing costs, the carbon tax, emergency room wait times, and “safe supply”. He said that there are also things he will not cut, notably healthcare, education, and policing.

  • The Conservative Party committed to putting $1 billion toward improving BC’s water and sewage infrastructure. The money is intended to support local governments in upgrading vital services and addressing the housing crisis.

  • The BC Greens and leader Sonia Furstenau held a press conference, indicating that the party would have their platform laid out in the early days of the campaign.

  • Voting Day is October 19th, 2024 and the polls will be open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. There are many ways to vote in this election. You can cast your ballot at any district electoral office in the province from now until 4:00 pm on Voting Day. A full list of district electoral offices is available online. You can also request a vote-by-mail package online or by phone until October 13th.
