Election 2024: Campaign Roundup - Day 19

Welcome to Day 19 of our British Columbia 2024 Campaign Roundup!

With the 2024 BC election now finally underway, we'll be bringing you daily updates on all the policy proclamations, platform promises, and political point-scoring from the campaign trail.

As always, our work is entirely funded by donations from British Columbians just like you, so if you appreciate the updates, please consider making a one-off donation or signing up as a supporter for just $10 a month - that's just 36 cents per email!

Campaign Roundup - Day 19:

  • A new poll from Leger shows that the BC NDP has regained the lead from the BC Conservative Party among decided voters, with 47% supporting the NDP and 42% supporting the Conservatives.

  • The BC Conservatives highlighted Leader John Rustad’s statement from last night’s Leader’s Debate promising to bring an end to drugs and guns coming in through BC’s ports. They also showcased his statement promising to end drug decriminalization and take a new approach to the opioid crisis - investing in recovery.

  • BC NDP Candidate for North Delta, Ravi Kahlon, touted David Eby’s performance in last night’s Leader’s Debate. He said that Eby had a strong grasp on all the issues candidates are hearing from people about.

  • BC Green Party Leader Sonia Furstenau and Dana-Lyn Mackenzie, candidate for Vancouver - Yaletown, announced the creation of a Taskforce for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+), and the disbanding of the RCMP’s Critical Response Unit, which they suggested is responsible for “defending industrial interests at the expense of public and Indigenous rights.”

  • Elections BC is hiring 17,000 workers for advance voting and Election Day, but is facing challenges filling positions in the north and parts of Vancouver Island. A list of available jobs can be found here.

  • Advance voting begins tomorrow. Voters can cast their ballots early over six days, with polling stations open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. You can find your polling station online here.
